A second career in law
If you are looking for a second career in law, perhaps on retirement from the police or armed forces, then we have a number of options for you to consider. We are an approved learning provider under the MOD’s Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC or ELCAS) for service personnel.
Our distance learning courses will enable you to study for a wide choice of roles in the legal world.

What options are available under the ELC scheme?
ELCs may only be claimed for courses that result in a nationally recognised qualification at Level 3 or above on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) (England and Wales).

This is a paralegal qualification and an excellent starting point for your studies as it can also be used as the first building block towards qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive lawyer. The five courses leading to this qualification can be studied by distance learning and usually take approximately one year to complete.
This is the first stage of legal executive training and comprises ten courses, five of which are studied in the ILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice. The Diploma is usually achieved over two years of study.
The second stage of Chartered Legal Executive training includes six courses and is usually achieved over two years of study. It is necessary to complete the ILEX Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law and Practice first.
