Gain apprenticeship funding
Many law firms are currently considering whether they can tap in to legal apprenticeship funding for their training, and are reviewing their recruitment and training strategies to encourage school leaver applicants.
At the moment apprenticeship funding is available for training under the Business and Administration apprenticeship scheme which is overseen by the Council for Administration. This is essentially a scheme for secretaries which does not include any law or legal practice content. However, some firms who have tapped into this funding are providing their apprentices with additional unfunded legal training through ITC.
There is currently no funded law apprenticeship for paralegals, but Skills for Justice, the body responsible for apprenticeship development in this area, is working with the legal sector to create such a scheme. ITC is part of Skills for Justice’s steering group for the development of a paralegal apprenticeship programme, which is likely to come to fruition during 2012.
ITC expects to be in a position to deliver training within any legal apprenticeship scheme that is developed. If you are interested in being at the forefront of the paralegal apprenticeship movement within the legal sector and are looking at widening access to the profession within your organisation, please contact Jenny Pelling, our Business Director, on 01234 844326 or at j.pelling@ilex-tutorial.ac.uk.
