Insolvency and Debt Recovery - £200

Who is the course for?

This ITC Specialist Course is designed for unqualified staff working in debt recovery departments in law firms, as well as in specialist debt recovery, or credit, organisations. It is also suitable for qualified staff who wish to switch to debt recovery work or refresh knowledge in this area of practice. If you are a legal executive and this is not your area of specialism you can allocate 50% (8 hours) of your annual CPD requirement, or 100% if it is. If you are a solicitor you can allocate 75% (12 hours), which is the maximum available for CPD by distance learning under the SRA's rules. For the purposes of the SRA the course is at intermediate level.

We are collaborating with the Civil Court Users Association (CCUA) on this course, and the course is endorsed by the CCUA, as confirmed by their Chair, Brian Havercroft:

" In these increasingly busy times for the Civil Courts we anticipate that many law firms and credit organisations will recruit new staff to service their debt recovery actions. The CCUA thoroughly endorses the new ITC Specialist Course in Insolvency and Debt Recovery for new support staff and those seeking to refresh their knowledge of this type of action.’

What will I study?

The course is a supplement to the CILEx Level 3 Civil Litigation Unit and features specific aspects of the civil litigation procedure which are of particular relevance in the context of personal and corporate insolvency. We recommend that you also study the CILEx Level 3 Contract Law Unit. The course covers undefended debt claims, enforcement, Individual Voluntary Arrangements, bankruptcy, Company Voluntary Arrangements, administration and winding up.  To give an indication of the course content, please click here.

Assessment

ITC Specialist Courses are certificated by ITC - they are not examined by CILEx and do not contribute towards any CILEx qualification. The course is assessed by assignments submitted to ITC for marking. There is no exam. ITC will provide a certificate of completion to students who have passed the two assessed assignments.

The CCUA will provide a prize to the student who achieves the highest mark in the Insolvency and Debt Recovery Course in the period up to 31 December 2011. The prize will be £150, with a special bonus of £50 if the student’s employer is a member of the CCUA and has funded the course.
