Introduction
Training to be a legal secretary
Our qualifications for legal secretaries will develop or refine your secretarial skills and help you to succeed in the legal environment. The choice of legal secretary qualifications available means that you can tailor your learning to fit your aspirations.
Who are these qualifications for?
Our Level 2 qualifications are ideal if you wish to become a legal secretary and have no previous secretarial or administrative experience, although you do need to be able to use a keyboard. The Level 3 qualifications are suitable if you are already a secretary or an administrator and you wish to move into the legal field or build on your current legal secretarial skills. Alternatively, you may already have a law degree or other qualification in law and wish to add secretarial skills to improve your employment prospects in the legal world.
What qualifications are available?
There is a choice of qualifications at both Level 2 and Level 3 so that you can select training to take account of your current experience as well as your learning goals.
The core qualification at each level is the Certificate for Legal Secretaries, and this can be topped up with additional units to achieve a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries. You can select whether your further studies for the Diploma will be achieved by acquiring further technical skills, or by learning about your area of legal practice.

If you achieve a City & Guilds/ILEX Level 2 Diploma for Legal Secretaries - Legal Studies Route, you can top up to a Level 3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries - Legal Studies Route by studying the units listed in the Level 3 Certificate for Legal Secretaries, as your Legal Studies units will count for both the Level 2 and the Level 3 Diploma.

If you wish to enrol on courses leading to a Diploma via the on-line shop, please select the relevant Award and Certificate that make up your chosen Diploma. For the Level 2/3 Diploma for Legal Secretaries - Legal Studies Route you will select the Certificate for Legal Secretaries at the appropriate level, plus a Level 2 Award in Legal Studies.
